April foreclosure activity decreased nationally by 5 percent from the previous month and was down 14 percent from April 2011. One in every 698 U.S. housing units had a foreclosure filing during the month.
Large decreases in California, Arizona, and Nevada are largely responsible for the decline in part due to an increase in short sale activity and their population.
However, 14 of the 24 non-judicial states saw in increase in foreclosure activity. One of these was Georgia. The Atlanta metro area was hit with a 21.3 percent increase. The Atlanta rate equates to 1 in every 298 homes is in some stage of foreclosure.
